The main objective of the Symposium on “The Future of Light and Lighting” is the interdisciplinary gathering
of professions involved with light.
Such an event offers the best opportunity to forge links to international researchers and scientists that
support the creation and development of existing networks and value added chains, e.g. of the health tourism
in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Trends in the development of the country to become number one in this field indicate the possibilities for
the future.
The PLDA Vox Juventa 2008 Conference will be part of the Symposium program.
Vox Juventa is a conference for young Lighting Designers organized by PLDA (Professional Lighting Designers Association).
After being staged in Stockholm, Hildesheim, and London (parallel to PLDC 2007
- Professional Lighting Design Convention) Vox Juventa will be hosted by the Hochschule Wismar in 2008.
This will be the fourth event in succession.
PLDA will be responsible for the organization and selection of the speakers.
Lighting Designers under the age of 30 are invited to submit their papers.
PLDA Educators Meeting
In concordance with the decision of the PLDA Educators Meeting in October 2007, the international, bi-annual
meeting of Lighting Design Educators and Researchers will be combined with the Light Symposium in Wismar.
The first of the two PLDA Educators and Researchers Meetings in 2008 took already place in Frankfurt during
the Light+Building Fair in April.
Thus, the University Wismar and especially the Architectural Lighting Design (ALD) course established in 2001,
have the unique opportunity to present their competences and opportunities internationally as well as provide
information on the University's program.
The fact that the University Wismar is currently the only university in Germany where a Master course in
Architectural Lighting Design is offered, is a great benefit from which all other courses in the Faculty
of Design can profit, too.
Future Prospects
At the beginning of the 21st century the global challenges facing humans have gained gigantic dimensions.
According to experts, the topic “Light” is gaining more and more influence and importance, and can make a
positive contribution to enhancing our private and working lives.
Therefore, interdisciplinary collaboration is fundamental. The Symposium in Wismar aims to achieve and add to the
successful and effective combination of different disciplines as documented by the PLDC 2007 event in London.
